1. How long have you been in business?

A contractor with more than 5 years experience is usually a good rule of thumb for choosing a reputable roofing company. The number of years the business has been around is a good indication of their reliability and success. Most companies with years of experience are familiar with a variety of roofs and knowledgeable enough to guide you through the process.

2. Do you have liability insurance?

It is important to that the roofing company you choose has liability insurance. In the case of an accident during the work of your roof, this will ensure that the company is insured and the injury responsibility won’t fall on the homeowner.

3. What does the work involve?

Make sure the contractor you choose is willing to answer all of your questions and walk you through the process so that you understand the work involved. Understanding what work is involved will also help manage your expectations for completion and all that it entails. Communication with your contractor is also very important. Ensure that they will be willing to update you on progress of your roof throughout the project.

4. How much will the job cost?

The contractor you choose should complete an inspection and be able to give you a quote/estimate with a break down of the work that needs to be done. Make sure to review your quote and ask the contractor any questions you may have about the final quote.

5. What could change the quote provided?

This question is an easy one to miss when meeting with your contractor. It’s important to understand your quote and if there’s any possibility of it changing. Be proactive with your questions and know that a trustworthy contractor will be more than happy to answer all of your questions and put any concerns you have at ease.

6. Can you foresee any potential issues with the job?

Managing your expectations can help ease the stress and concerns that sometimes come with large projects such as getting a new roof. Your contractor may be able to foresee any potential issues after inspecting your roof, and they can inform you of any potential issues.

7. Do you offer any warranty through your company? Does manufacture offer warranty?

Most manufacturers of the material you choose for your roof will offer a warranty, but you also want to ask if your roofing company offers a workmanship warranty. This will ensure once the work is done, if something goes wrong with your new roof, your contractor will come back and fix it for the time of the warranty. Having a workmanship warranty and manufacturer warranty for your new roof is advised for your investment.
